New work with interdisciplinary performance company House of Makers at Ostade A'dam

Come step into a strange, wonderful world!

We grow up so very fast; working to live and living to work. We spend so much time online, which is not a physical space. It doesn’t know the warmth of other bodies, or the jolt of suddenly looking someone in their eyes. Is this really the reality we want to create for ourselves?

House of Makers believes we could all benefit from a bit of wonder and a very real, offline experience. Eventide is an immersive theater experience which invites play, wonder and excitement. Step into the unknown and explore the boundaries of what is familiar. Think of this performance as a time machine, throwing you back to when you were a kid. At the start of it all and so eager for any experience.

House of Makers explores the boundaries between various disciplines through out all their work. They are a writer, a dancer and a choreographer collaborating with many different artists. They are fascinated by the role of the performer and its relation to the audience. House of Makers’ work leans on live performance and has an inquisitive and often dreamlike quality.

Concept, regie: House of Makers
Tekst: Sterre van Rossem
Compositie, geluid: Nicholas Robert Thayer
Uitvoering: to be announced
Dans: Carlo Camagni, Frederik Kaiser
Choreografie: Peter Leung
Visual artist: Willem Stapel, Anouk van Kalmthout

House of Makers residency at Ostade A’dam

‘Something’s brewing. Like a gathering storm cloud, darkening the horizon, you feel it coming. It stifles the air, your body knows before your mind does; take cover, look for shelter. At first I thought it was a war coming, but I know now it’s much worse. It’s the world as we know it, as we have come to trust it, crumbling at the edges. Shaken to its core, it has become unstable. It’s the shared history, revealed as dominant narrative, nothing more. It’s truth, broken and stripped down to words following words, syntax, explored then exploited by those with the power of knowledge, of the pen. Those who are now allowed to utter words, make up new stories. Beware! Remember the truth! Forget about language!’ - diary entry #1

During their residency at Ostade A’dam, House of Makers will take inspiration from 1984; George Orwell’s famous dystopian fiction. Feeling that his work is relevant now more than ever, HoM explores the power and place of language in today’s society, taking Orwell’s notion of doublespeak as their starting point.

Collaborating with a wide range of artists they will create an immersive theater experience inviting the audience to be part of their research.

Exhibition Opening at Galerie Ron Mandos

House of Makers takes part in the exhibition Stringendo by Silvia B. in Galerie Ron Mandos.

Dancer Clotilde Tran gives an intimate performance in close proximity to the audience. The performance builds a tension which moves in and out of balance, in and out of the comfort zones of both performer and audience. In exposing its fragile nature, the performance responds to the sculptures by artist Silvia B.
