WE SHALL MEET IN THE PLACE WHERE THERE IS NO DARKNESS DAY 1

House of Makers residency at Ostade A’dam

‘Something’s brewing. Like a gathering storm cloud, darkening the horizon, you feel it coming. It stifles the air, your body knows before your mind does; take cover, look for shelter. At first I thought it was a war coming, but I know now it’s much worse. It’s the world as we know it, as we have come to trust it, crumbling at the edges. Shaken to its core, it has become unstable. It’s the shared history, revealed as dominant narrative, nothing more. It’s truth, broken and stripped down to words following words, syntax, explored then exploited by those with the power of knowledge, of the pen. Those who are now allowed to utter words, make up new stories. Beware! Remember the truth! Forget about language!’ - diary entry #1

During their residency at Ostade A’dam, House of Makers will take inspiration from 1984; George Orwell’s famous dystopian fiction. Feeling that his work is relevant now more than ever, HoM explores the power and place of language in today’s society, taking Orwell’s notion of doublespeak as their starting point.

Collaborating with a wide range of artists they will create an immersive theater experience inviting the audience to be part of their research.
