DoelenEnsemble, House of Makers & Klankvorm: Kinetic Sounds

Brug tussen mens en machine door Peter-Jan Wagemans en interdisciplinary arts foundation House of Makers

TICKETS & MORE INFO

From the sun's perspective

From the sun's perspective brengt artiesten samen die elkaar in onze gekaderde samenleving niet snel zullen tegenkomen.

Narcissus & Echo at Felix Meritis

Narcissus & Echo, created by House of Makers and Veejays.com, is a moving Virtual Reality dance experience about loneliness and connection. A shared experience… at a distance.

TICKETS!

Shows at 18.15 + 19.30 + 20.45

In this groundbreaking interactive dance, the audience is trapped in a virtual world with the mythical creatures Narcissus and Echo. They are together in the same space, and yet do they manage to make a real connection? One in danger of losing themselves due to a requited love, the other only sees themselves, losing a reality more and more. Without each other they are probably lost…

With a team of artists stemming from the world of dance, design and technology, we used the period of lockdown to create a completely new performative experience. Developed to be experienced by small groups of people on diverse stages, where audience could share an experience whilst keeping a safe distance.

Dive into this surreal world with us and become part of a VR dance and music performance about narcissism, ‘echo chambers’, isolation and – perhaps – love. WITHIN TIME

“a beautiful performance by young people about the present time”

— Joanna Fox - Dansmagazine August 2020

Saturday 3rd July 14.30 + 16.00 + 17.30 + 19.00

Sunday 4th July 14.00 + 15.30 + 17.00

https://www.festivalderaa.nl/programma/voetevalderaa-clun-forest/

Departing from Monteverdi's Lamento della Ninfa, WITHIN TIME is a performance that reflects on the shock and deep sorrow stemming from abruptly broken promises. A sudden new truth emerges. The performance connects different feelings that people experienced during the period of lockdown; anger, relief, resignation, breathlessness and grief. The singers, the musicians and the dancer give solitary emotions a place in a larger whole and during the performance different pieces of music grow together into one score.

Brigitte van Hagen (soprano) & Robbrecht van Cauwenberghe (bajan) at Festival der Aa

We will be performing 2 programs at this years edition of Festival der Aa, as part of the De route VoeteValderAa Club Forest.

https://www.festivalderaa.nl/programma/voetevalderaa-clun-forest/

1. Brigitte van Hagen & Robbrecht van Cauwenberghe

Friday 2nd July 16.00 + 17.30 + 19.00

Brigitte van Hagen (soprano) will be performing with Robbrecht van Cauwenberghe (bajan).

Recently during their first project together there was a beautiful musical connection. Both performers have a great love for the theatre that is within the discipline of music.

Both bel canto guilty pleasures are on the program, as well as a compelling tango and famous folk songs by Ravel.

The sound of the Bajan and Brigitte’s voice together elicits a feeling of love and deep melancholy. The combination of these instruments and artists, with the beautiful music, and surrounded by nature will be a very special concert at Festival der Aa.

Resonance - show 2

This is the first public event for ‘Resonance’, and you are invited to join us as we begin this adventure! Resonance is a collaborative project with composer Nicholas Robert Thayer, visual artist Frouke ten Velden and director and choreographer Peter Leung searching for ways to translate the languages of sound and vision into sculpture and musical compositions. We are building a performative light sculpture that interacts with its environment, the space and sound that surround it, and is triggered by electronics performed live over a multichannel surround sound installation.

This research project stretches over a period of two years during which we will do several performances that show our current state of development. We will be exploring a new specific concept connected with our research each showing. This edition focuses on shape and presence in time. In our current climate everything seems to be shifting online: so we ask questions such as ‘where does the artwork start?’ ‘Did it already begin with posting this text?’ With the first time we spoke about it?’ ‘Or does it come into being the first time you see it?’ Come and join us on this journey, live, in person, together at RADION on the 13th.

WITHIN TIME

TICKETS!

The world quiet. Time is ticking. Other sounds take over from the traffic and the bustling street life. Space is created, and suddenly birds and the wind through the leaves are audible again.

WITHIN TIME is about time and music. What music plays inside when the clock is stopped? No more decisive rhythm, no guidance. Rest and sometimes an anxious not knowing. What is lost? What next?

WITHIN TIME departs from Monteverdi's Lamento della Ninfa. The soprano sings a stream of amazement and deep sorrow at an abruptly broken promise. A suddenly new truth arises. And this is a situation currently facing not one person, but the entire world.

In WITHIN TIME, Lamento della ninfa stretches and almost comes to a standstill. The silence that is created creates space for other music to flourish.

House of Makers is creating a new music theater performance especially for the Grachtenfestival, inspired by the difficult times surrounding corona. Experience this premiere in the Zuiderkerk.

House of Makers presents soprano Brigitte van Hagen who will perform an extended version of ‘L’Invitation au Voyage’ (Baudelaire / Duparc) with composer Nicholas Thayer and pianist Setareh Nafisi. Together with choreographer and director Peter Leung they have created a performance based on the idea of language, communication and interpretation. Through sign language, music and text, both digital and live, they have created a mesmerising world of movement and music that allows the audience to empathise with how the performers express themselves. With the continuation of this project they hope to create a space for an integrated audience and performers alike.

House of Makers is an Amsterdam - Portland based arts collective that celebrates and practices interdisciplinary work. They have been creating projects that stem from multiple perspectives with the idea that different disciplines inform and inspire each other.

'Kin' at Dance Stories, Het Amsterdams Theaterhuis

‘Kin’, a piece about exploring relationships

Choreographer Peter Leung (House of Makers / Dutch National Ballet) is directing a collaboration between dancers Erika Poletto and Frederik Kaijser; composer and performer Nicholas Robert Thayer; theater maker, video & light designer Hendrik Walther; violinist & improviser Miriam den Boer-Salmón. As makers and performers these artists all share something very clearly in their work, they cross disciplines creating contemporary work.

TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE!

Kin_image.jpg

‘Kin’ is a creation where the relationships between all of these disciplines are brought to forefront. The performance is based on a space where all of the performers come together through a constant stream of consciousness that brings the inside out and creates phrasing for their performance. This results in monologues, dialogues and conversations between the disciplines ultimately exploring relationships.

'Circe' at Cinedans

‘Circe’

House of Makers presents Circe, a new short dance film made in collaboration with filmmaker Bowie Verschuuren. The short film captures a modern reimagining of the famous story by Homer, placing at its center not the lust of a man, but the love of a woman.

Using narration, original score and ballet this fresh approach conjures up a poetic world with a touch of modern realism.

About the film:

We all know the story of Odysseus. The seafaring king, trying to find his way home. The story of the wreckage he leaves in his trail is considered heroic. Yet there is a different story, one less told, but perhaps more true. The story of a Circe, who lived in peace with the animals on her island. She was a witch, a lover, a mother. She invited Odysseus, a stranded stranger. She loved him, but he never really gave her his heart. And so she chose to send him on his way again.
